Bruno’s Bucket List

January19

These are just some of the things we made a conscious effort to do with Bruno the moment we found out that he had cancer. We weren’t sure what his future held in store, nor how much time with him we had left. We also didn’t realize, at first, how choosing to become a tripawd would be a blessing in disguise; it would give us our boy back and grant us more precious time together.

The one thing Bruno had in his life that you forgot to mention was a family that loved him so much. Bruno was a very lucky boy, and I know you feel you were even luckier to have been the folks who got to live with him. Thank you for sharing these photos. They say more about Bruno and his family than any words could.

Great photos! They do show that Bruno and had a full, rich family life and was a cherished member of a devoted pack. As Max’s mama says, you were lucky to get to share your lives with Bruno, but you already know that.

We all know it’s not the quantity but the quality that’s most important, and as hard as it can be to accept the hand we’re dealt, Bruno lived his time absorbing every ounce of pleasure and joy that he could. Thank you for sharing Bruno here.

Maricela and Jeremy…We are all truly sorry for your loss. What a great nephew and cousin he was to me, Serenity, and Chris Jr. He will truly be missed by us and by many. We love ya’ll! I also bought a calendar and can’t wait for it to come in. ♥

On This Day… On this day, a year ago, I was forced to set you free You left us for a better place where whole again you’d be. It felt as though my heart had been ripped out and I struggled to take a breath Up to then I’d never experienced quite as big a […]
  • Missing You
Bruno was so much more than a pet or even a dog, at least, to me. His soul and essence brought a sense of tranquility into my life. His cognac- colored eyes never failed to “get me”, and I especially loved the flecks of amber and gold that shown (in his barely squinting eyes) as […]
  • Feels Like Home
Today, marks four months since I last saw my sweet boy’s face and caressed his soft spotted ears. Some days are harder than others, but the memories help fill the void of his absence when the emptiness feels like more than I can handle. One thing that’s for sure is that he gave me memories […]

More from Bruiser Bruno…

Introducing:  “The Incredible” Bruiser Bruno

Who:  The Incredible, Brave, Head-Strong, Bully, Sun-Worshipper.

The lover of: Pizza, LMN (yes, as in Lifetime Movie Network), and long afternoon drives down country roads.

Who?

None other than–MY Bruno.

Breed:  American Bulldog

Date of Birth:  January 1, 2005 (7yrs old)

Strengths:   His ability to ask for forgiveness (as he extends his paw-gesturing for a handshake) after he has been ornery, his quiet strength & laid back demeanor, how he has faced adversity time and time again head on.  How he calls on the fighter within him to help him battle illness, when in reality he is nothing but a lover.

Vices: His love affair with food.

Main weaknesses:  PIZZA, Blue Bell Ice Cream- Homemade Vanilla (“The best ice cream in the country!” according to Bruno), any and all of mom’s homemade cooking.

His Current Adversary:  Histiocytic Synovial Cell Sarcoma

*9/8/11- This marked the day that Jeremy, my husband, Bruno, and I were handed the news.  The news that was not only not good news, but that was news which we had clearly not prepared ourselves to entertain.  Lab results, which had been sent to Florida by our local vet, of the biopsy which they had taken from his knee joint identified his condition.  The diagnosis was: synovial cell sarcoma.  All I heard was the word “CANCER.”

Timeline/Back-story leading up to diagnosis:  Coming Soon.

To be Continued…And so, the saga began.
